Primary and middle school students from nine schools in Chengdu launched a short video of the Chengdu 2021 FISU WUG (World University Games) Summer in eight languages on September 1. The video was launched at the Tianfu School in Chengdu during an opening ceremony of “Love Chengdu, Embrace the Games”.

In the video, young children take the audiences to major landmarks in Chengdu such as Sichuan Science and Technology Museum, Kuanzhai Alley, Wuhou Shrine, Dufu Thatched Cottage Museum, 339 Tianfu Panda Tower, Chengdu IFS, Global Center, Financial City Twin Towers, Dong'an Lake Sports Park and nine more sites. Eight languages besides Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, German, French, Spanish and Thai were used to launch the world Universiade invitation.

Students were also surprised to receive two special “letters” during the first day at school. The first one was a visual message from Eric Saintrond (Secretary-General and CEO of FISU), who said: “I’m glad to see the younger generation of students participating in our grand meeting for FISU. The Chengdu 2021 FISU WUG Summer is a good opportunity for you to understand sports and culture and it will also be a great opportunity for you to show the hospitality of the Chinese population and Sichuan community to the world.”

“In 2021, the FISU WUG Summer will be held in Chengdu and more than 10,000 student athletes will arrive in Chengdu to participate in the competition. This is a rare opportunity for  cultural exchange between Chinese and international young students. I hope that students will actively participate in the preparation and hosting of the Universiade and strengthen exchanges and mutual learning with friends from other countries,” Xue Yanqing, chairman of CSSF and vice president of FUSC, said.

Li Xinmeng, a student from Shuangliu Experimental Primary School, said: “I was deeply drawn to the Chengdu 2021 FISU WUG Summer and volunteered to join the invitation team. I hope to represent the Chengdu student community to international visitors.”(By Edina Liang)
