The Chengdu Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone(CDHT)put its first batch of eight unmanned cabs into trial operation in its Singapore-Sichuan Science and Technology Innovation Park on July 22.
This is the first demonstration project for unmanned vehicles and road coordination in Sichuan province.
In March,Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan, issued the first batch of 12 driverless license plates to the CDHT,and the first batch of four buses and eight taxis were tested on the intellectually-modified roads of the innovation park.
The trial operation of the driverless taxi will take place within a 10-square-kilometer area in the innovation park.Service times last from 9 a.m.to 5 p.m.Users can hail a car with one click through the Apollo Go app,mini-program,and Baidu Maps self-driving taxi entrance.

The driverless taxis use advanced self-driving kits and AI technology. There are four types of main sensors on the car, including a laser radar, nine cameras, two millimeter-wave radars, and an ultrasonic radar set.The laser radar installed on the roof has a range of about 200 meters.Through a fusion sensing algorithm and a variety of sensors, the vehicle can accurately obtain information about its surrounding environment and perform corresponding operations through an AI algorithm, according to its developer.
In order to connect"smart car"with"smart road,"the project operators have carried intellectual transformation of the innovation park's 30-kilometer-long road, installing all necessary AI equipment and facilities, including laser radars, roadside communication units, roadside computing units, and high-definition cameras.
