The Sichuan Institute of International Science and Technology Cooperation (Japan and South Korea) was recently established in Chengdu.

As the first national research platform and think tank for science and technology cooperation in Sichuan Province, Sichuan Institute of International Science and Technology Cooperation (Japan and South Korea) and Academy of Global Governance and Area Studies of Sichuan Normal University follows the strategy of "two brands and one set of team”. Professor Lu Jing, executive director of Academy of Global Governance and Area Studies, serves as executive director of Sichuan Institute of International Science and Technology Cooperation (Japan and South Korea).

Sichuan Institute of International Science and Technology Cooperation (Japan and South Korea) focuses on promoting science and technology exchanges and cooperation between Sichuan Province, Japan, South Korea and other key cooperative countries, and aims to implement the innovation and development driven strategy and serve the economic and social development of Sichuan Province. It will focus on developing an intellectual database of science and technology from China, Japan, South Korea, encourage cooperation in these areas while popularising these subjects and provide policy suggestions for decision-making and deployment to Sichuan Province.

Sichuan already has a close cooperation with Japan and South Korea. Established in 2018, China (Sichuan) Japan Cooperation Industrial Park focuses on airport economy, high-end manufacturing, medical health, international finance, cultural and creative industries. By the end of 2019, there were 45 enterprises settled in China and South Korea innovation and entrepreneurship Park, involving Internet of things, artificial intelligence, energy conservation and environmental protection, pan entertainment games and other industries. From January to September 2019, Japan and South Korea are the fifth and eighth largest trading partners of Chengdu respectively, with import and export of 22.79 billion yuan and 13.62 billion yuan respectively in the same period.

On December 24, 2019, the Eighth Trilateral Summit Meeting among the China, Korea and Japan, was held in Chengdu, Sichuan. Premier Li Keqiang and Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo and the President of South Korea Moon Jae-in attended the meeting together. After the meeting, they published a "Trilateral Cooperation Vision for the Next Decade". In the next decade, China, Japan and South Korea will carry out cooperation in many aspects, including jointly improving the level of cooperation among the three countries, maintaining lasting peace and security, advocating an open and win-win cooperation, leading the scientific and technological revolution, promoting regional connectivity and infrastructure cooperation, including transportation and logistics, and realizing overall revitalization of industries and common development.(By Zhu Zehai)
